The Ships Log:

The Ships Log is kept in the chart table. Boat voyages should be completed daily.

Things to include:

  • A list of any crew, plus any amendments to it during the holiday.

  • A brief daily log of travel destinations and stop off points.

  • Recommendations of places visited, favourable anchorages, good places to eat, swim etc. if you believe other members of the syndicate might appreciate it.

  • Any boat issues noticed, remedial work undertaken, or issues that need to be reported to the syndicate.

Monitor and log engine, fuel, oil, and coolant use:

  • Log the engine hours at the start and end of holidays and whenever fuel is purchased. At the end of the holiday calculate and log the rate of fuel burn once the fuel tank has been filled, and the number of engine hours used during the holiday has been calculated.

  • The oil and filter is changed every 150 hours. The number of engine hours is monitored since the last oil change so we don't exceed this.

  • Check and maintain oil and coolant levels, and log the amount of any oil and water added.

  • Log the amount of any fuel, oil, filters or coolant purchased.

  • Engine, fuel, oil and coolant use is recorded on a proforma, located in the front of the Ships Log.

Maintenance:

Include a record of maintenance and repairs undertaken and observations regarding other issues you have noticed but have been unable to deal with.

Communicating problems encountered to other syndicate members:

Serious problems should be conveyed to syndicate members by phone call/emails as soon as possible, outlining the problem(s) and listing any items/ replacement spares that might need to be brought out from the UK to rectify them. It is particularly important to make sure the next person going out to the boat is informed as a matter of urgency. Estimated costs, where known, should be mentioned to the treasurer. These should also be summarised on the Handover sheet.
